Valentine's Day 2012

The day started off hunky-dory.

I got up earlier than usual, got my workout and shower in for the day.
The boys woke up and I started on pancakes with red sprinkles for breakfast.

After breakfast, we headed out to Walmart to pick up a few grocery items.
Callan wore my favorite hat of his, made by my grandma.

We stopped at Starbucks on the way home to support gun rights - I got a black coffee solely so I could sweeten it up with some York Peppermint Pattie creamer.  YUM.

After Callan's afternoon nap, I gave him his [new] traditional Valentine's Day cookie.
He went to town.
And looked awfully cute doing so.

I love that sweet, crumby face.

After a sweet morning, the day ended on a pretty "crappy" note.  We had to call the plumber because we had some, well, plumbing issues in the bathroom.  3 hours later, he couldn't find the "clean out drain", so he'll be back in the morning with another person. There goes whatever savings we had, and then some.
But who needs money, when you have LOVE!  hmm.

We are wrapping up the night with a run to Taco Bell because it got too late too cook dinner.
Not that there's anything with Taco Bell on Valentine's Day (ahem, Heidi).  ;)

Happy Valentine's Day?  Ha.

baked Valentines

I may or may not have a new obsession with making sugar cookies.  Earlier this week, I baked up, and frosted, two batches of these sugar cookies.  (I used this royal icing recipe.)  We sent a few of them off to some special little Valentines, tucked a few into the freezer, and, I will admit that quite a few made their way into my stomach.
Guilty.
Deliciously guilty.

When in NJ, several weeks ago, I picked up some really cute animal cookie cutters from Ikea.
They make some really cute cookies!

The moose is, by far, my favorite.

And of course we needed some festive hearts.
All sizes.
Some with sprinkles, some without.

These little guys are even tastier when dunked into a cup of coffee.
Think coffee infused baked deliciousness.
I want more.
Seriously.

I might just have to make ONE more batch...

we made Valentines

When I saw this idea on Pinterest, I knew we had to try it.  Callan is still young, so it's hard to come by crafts that are [almost] 15 month old appropriate (at least in my experience).

With Valentine's Day right around the corner, I thought why not send out a few "made by Callan, with love" Valentines.  It may have taken us, only, about 5 minutes to make them, but the boy had a ball - and we got some cute pictures while he was stamping away.

I've never been a fan of Valentine's Day - it's so cheesy and commercial.  But now that I have a little guy, it's fun to acknowledge it and make it a special, memorable day for him.  :)

Are heart shaped, sprinkle filled pancakes on the menu?  You betchya!  Will Callan even realize it at this age?  Probably not, but we're building traditions here, people, and I'm all about that.

where is winter?

It's been in the 60s here, lately.  What's up with that?

We went out to play in the yard yesterday, after Travis headed out to work.
Fresh air was good for both of us.
We need to start doing it daily.

I rocked my favorite sweatpants.
I may or may not have been wearing them for 24 hours + at this point.

In the dirt.

Such a boy.

And I'm still working on the kitchen.  It's slow going.  I'll share some progress pictures once I'm finished with the uppers. You won't believe the difference it has made already!

What have you been up to?
